I've got to say, I had heard of The Handsome Family but hadn't sampled any of their music before I stumbled upon this recording.
What can I say? Strange, ... sad, funny and a downright pleasant soundtrack for a lazy afternoon. The recording is solid, and an excellent set list. Looks like they'll be in Chicago maybe around July with Curt Kirkwood of Meat Puppets fame. Sounds like an enjoyable show, I think I'll go.
Anyway, if you're already a fan, this is an excellent quality recording... if you're like me, and hadn't really heard the Handsome Family before, take this as one of those random opportunities that we sometimes mistake for fate and give these guys a chance. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
One complaint, the description says this is two discs if you download it; which is true, but the show is only just long enought to fill one disc completely and you end up with just one track on disc two. If you're worried about wasting disc space, cut out the intro and the banter and maybe sacrifice one 4 minute song and you'll be fine.
